When I was a child, during the carnival, we had a custom to dress up, put our masks on, ring on our neighbors doors and sing to them in exchange for candies or donuts. It was a very nice childhood memory. So when me and my friends have grown up, we decided to visit the best European Carnival in Venice.
Every year tourist agencies organize one day trips from Zagreb to Venice. We were really lucky ‘cause the weather was sunny and warm. It was great to escape a bit from reality and stop thinking about work or other problems we had left behind.
It was really crowded, but we didn’t mind. While trying to get through the crowd to Piazza San Marco we saw so many beautiful and sophisticated masks. Later on we continued our walk across the famous bridges of Venice and found a perfect place to rest in front of the Basilica di San Giovanni e Paulo. Even though we had thought it would be impossible to find a place to sit, we managed to drink perfect Italian cappuccino while sitting in a cafe by the canal on a sunny winter’s day.
